🍂 October Reflections: Gratitude, Growth, and a Tail of a Cat

October always brings a quiet kind of magic. The leaves turn golden, the air grows crisp, and here in Canada, we gather around tables to celebrate Thanksgiving—a holiday my family adopted when we arrived from El Salvador many years ago. It wasn’t part of our traditions growing up, but it quickly became one of the most meaningful.

This season reminds me of the fearless love my parents carried when they left behind an unsafe time in El Salvador to give us a chance at something better. Their courage shaped everything. And while El Salvador is thriving today, my heart still calls Canada and Mexico home—because those are the places I remember most, the places that held us, taught us, and helped us grow.

Speaking of adoption, our journey has been filled with furry companions—dogs and cats who’ve made every place feel like home. They’ve been our comfort, our laughter, our grounding. It’s no wonder that Book of Dog continues to grow, and now, I’m thrilled to share that a new story is on its way: A Cat’s Tail. The cover reveal is coming soon, and I can’t wait to introduce you to this new chapter of love, resilience, and feline charm.

As I reflect on all this, I’m reminded of the words of Jane Goodall, who recently passed away but left behind a legacy of compassion and connection:

“What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” — Jane Goodall

Her words echo in every story I write, every paw I hold, and every child I hope to reach. This October, I’m grateful—for the journey, for the stories, and for the community we’re building together.

🍂 Reflexiones de Octubre: Gratitud, Crecimiento y el Relato gatuno

Octubre siempre trae una magia tranquila. Las hojas se tornan doradas, el aire se vuelve fresco, y aquí en Canadá celebramos el Día de Acción de Gracias—una festividad que mi familia adoptó al llegar desde El Salvador hace muchos años. No era parte de nuestras tradiciones, pero rápidamente se convirtió en una de las más significativas.

Esta temporada me recuerda el amor valiente que mis padres llevaron consigo al dejar atrás un tiempo difícil en El Salvador para darnos una oportunidad de algo mejor. Su coraje lo cambió todo. Y aunque El Salvador hoy está floreciendo, mi corazón sigue llamando Canadá y México hogar—porque son los lugares que más recuerdo, los que nos abrazaron, nos enseñaron y nos ayudaron a crecer.

Hablando de adopciones, nuestro camino ha estado lleno de compañeros peludos—perros y gatos que han hecho que cada lugar se sienta como casa. Han sido nuestro consuelo, nuestra risa, nuestro ancla. Por eso Book of Dog sigue creciendo, y ahora me emociona compartir que una nueva historia está en camino: A Cat’s Tail. Muy pronto revelaré la portada, y no puedo esperar para presentarles este nuevo capítulo lleno de amor, resiliencia y encanto felino.

Al reflexionar sobre todo esto, recuerdo las palabras de Jane Goodall, quien recientemente falleció pero dejó un legado de compasión y conexión:

“Lo que haces marca la diferencia, y tú debes decidir qué tipo de diferencia quieres hacer.” — Jane Goodall

Sus palabras resuenan en cada historia que escribo, en cada patita que abrazo, y en cada niño al que espero llegar. Este octubre, estoy agradecida—por el camino, por las historias, y por la comunidad que estamos construyendo juntos.
